- Sport climbers will love the Prescott climbing opportunities – some considered the best in Arizona even!
- Two great opportunities just minutes from downtown Prescott.
- Make it a leisure afternoon – bring a lunch, explore the area and then get to the climbing!
Where can I go climbing?
Granite Dells
This is one of the more popular Prescott climbing destinations, even for the novice climbers who consider ‘rock climbing’ jumping from rock to rock. Please bear in mind that technically this is not a posted rock climbing area, and there are “No Trespassing” signs posted. Still, it is a known local hangout, so please keep a low profile and be respectful.
- Type of Climbing: Sport
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Location: Off of Highway 89, about five miles from downtown Prescott.

Thumb Butte
For those who wish to break from the popular trail, there is the potential to ramp up your hiking experience by climbing the volcanic alcove of Thumb Butte.
- Type of Climbing: Sport
- Difficulty: Three main trails ranging 5.0 to 5.9 in difficulty
- Location: A very well recognized landmark, you’ll see Thumb Butte well before you even see downtown Prescott. Head down Gurley Street, continue as it becomes Thumb Butte Road, park at the trailhead
